Created attachment 4957 Shadows covering the windows, with extended desktop. (Only a monitor was captured) I have Xubuntu 12.10 32bits installed in a Hp Pavilion dv5000 laptop. I've had problems when working with two monitors in extended desktop mode. The problem was that all the windows were covered by shadows (except the terminal...). First, I tried to do it with xrandr (xrandr --output VGA1 --right-of LVDS1) and that is when the problem appeared. Surfing the internet, I discovered that it was possible to work with extended desktop with the XFCE-14.12 repositories and I tried. The settings to extend the desktop were there but, the problem, didn't go. So, I started to think that there is a bug or something... I've attached a screen capture. Thank you, Aitor
Can you provide the steps to reproduce? I'm using somehow similar hardware and setup with no such problem... Note, reducing severity to normal, if the shadows are a problem, disable shadows in the xfwm4-tweaks settings or turn off the compositor entirely.
I haven't done anything special. These are the steps I've followed: 1. Turn on the computer (without the second monitor) 2. Plug the second monitor. 3. In the screen settings, check "Turn this output" in the second monitor and, in the position, "right of" my laptop display. On the other hand, I've seen that there are more problems when extending the desktop. The shadows in the windows was the most shocking one but, besides this, it seems that the terminal doesn't disappear when changing the focus to other window, it always stays in the front. I think that, the problem, is with the compositor. I've seen that, in order to work in extended desktop mode, I must turn off the compositor in xfwm4-tweaks-settings, as Olivier said. Doing this I won't have all the aesthetic details but I can work... Thank you very much and, if you want me to do some other test, just say it... Aitor
