Good day. Thought I'd transport this forum thread: http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=7030 to here, so as to keep/put tumbler filetype (and or path) configuration on the radar. I use lots of removable volumes and Tumbler getting its panties in an uproar every time I insert another one basically means I need to uninstall it to keep it from keeping the volume busy. That is, whereas I do appreciate thumbnails for, say, image or PDF files somewhere in my home directory, I'd really like an easy way to configure out, preferably, certain paths like /mnt and [/run]/media or at least certain types like video. Searching the bugzilla before posting this obtained a few similar but not same requests: the "certain paths" part is primary for me...
Implemented in 0.1.27 and thunar has the option to exclude removable volumes (following the gio spec).
Correction; remote locations can be excluded in thunar.
Whereas I will admit that I hadn't yet noticed this form of configuration at the time of relaying the issue, it seems that the implementation in 0.1.27 addresses the issue only very partially at best. Specifically, as far as I can see tumbler.rc only allows me to INCLUDE certain paths, not exclude (a strange choice...). Clearly, I could explicitly include all paths on my system except the one or two that I want it to stay away from -- but that would be the very partial (or "very clumsy", if you prefer) part. As I suppose your follow-up also says, I haven't seen a possibility to exclude removable volumes. If, as I expect, you can't cleanly/automatically identify a path as belonging to a removable volume at Tumbler's level, that bit is as far as I'm concerned fine to solve just with the path config: I'd just exclude the above mentioned paths and be happy. The part of the report that IS solved is configuring out video, but that was only a sort of last-ditch thing to minimise the trouble. Generally, I appreciate video thumbnails; it's just that I can't have Tumbler keeping my removable volumes busy while I'm working with lost of them. Practically speaking I guess I could now reinstall Tumbler and confine it to, say, my home directory. It would work for most of my pruposes but this is still rather sub-optimal. I'll reopen the request to configure OUT rather than in certain paths therefore. If closed again, I will assume I'm the only one who cares and not reopen.
In tumbler.rc: # Excludes: ;-separated path list the plugin will not be used in. # Absolute paths, environement variables, ~/ and ~username/ # are allowed. Leave empty to exclude nothing. Please note # that paths in Excludes precede those in Locations.
