Testing a splash screen quits unexpectedly and corrupts theme.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.  open the XFCE control panel
2.  click splash screen
3.  select any of the options (Mice, Simple, or Balou)
4.  Click test
Actual Results:  
Control panel and splash screen applet close suddenly, screen blanks quickly. 
Theme is messed up until the control panel is opened again.

Expected Results:  
Displayed a test splash screen
