i am using debian, unstable, unofficial xfce4.2 deb packages. and this bug exist in the 4.0.6. in xffm, open smb network, open a Windows machine. all the shared file/folders with a chinese name is shown wrong: the chinese chars is wrong, but still can be read, it is very strange - it is changed to another chinese characters. as i know, windows2k/xp use UTF-16 as the internal encoding, and linux use the user locale. for chinese, it is gb2312/gbk or gb18030. maybe this is where the problem is. if needed, i can show you the pictures. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. open xffm 2. create a folder with chinese folder name on windows2k/xp machine on your smb network 3. open this machine in xffm - smb network Actual Results: can not got the real folder/file name Expected Results: right folder/file name and maybe it will be right when using unicode as locale.
This is an important bug which is difficult to fix since windows servers from different windows versions use different encodings for smb communication. This bug is being worked on in xffm 4.3, so if you want to help in the resolution, try upgrading to xffm-4.3.1.
This problem is most probably fixed in current cvs 4.3.1.7. Reopen bug report if not. I have verified with japanese, but not chinese (dont have the necesary fonts installed)
