I have a shared drive at work that I access with the following /etc/fstab entry, /dotnebfs2.dot.nebraska.local/common /home/bsmith/DOT_SharedDrive cifs uid=bsmith,credentials=/home/bsmith/cifspw,gid=users 0 0 followed with a mount command as root/. The mount goes fine in XFCE as it does in Gnome and KDE. I can create directories and files just fine, however when using XFCE as my desktop I cannot delete any files on the DOT shared drive. I get an error message saying that, "Unable to create trashing info file. Permission denied. [Close]. This problem seems specific to XFCE because if I then log out and log back in using Gnome or KDE as a desktop manager, I can delete files on the shared drive again. I do not believe that this is a permissions issue with the resources on the shared drive. Thank you for your time and for creating a nice simple desktop.
...should've mentioned that deleting files in the user's home directory works fine under XFCE, as well as files on removeable media. The problem is the shared drive ONLY when using XFCE...it's no problem in Gnome or KDE. Thanks again. Bye.
Hi, Could you please confirm what the permissions are like on those drives? Especially, what are the permissions at the root of the drive and are files created with 755 permissions? Can you create folders to the root of the share itself from Xfce, and from the terminal? Thanks.
Closing, old bug and OP didn't reply.
