Note that Nautilus (Gnome) provides access to PTP cameras. As a workaround, would it be possible to add some script launched when the check-box "import numeric photos at connection" (settings "removable disk and media", "cameras" ? This script would use gphoto2 in order to mount a point and launch thunar to this location.
