When browsing a directory(thunar) that has a .mkv that is currently downloading(from IRC if that matters.) tumbler brings the system to its knees in seconds. Steps: Start to Download a .mkv file Open thunar and navigate to the directory the file is stored in. Tumbler starts to leak. Couldn't find any useful data in any log relating to tumbler.(or i looked in the wrong place.) Not sure if this bug happens if a .mkv is being downloaded from a browser such as firefox that appends '.part' to incomplete files.

Using ArchLinux tumbler 0.1.23-1 ffmpegthumbnailer 2.0.7-2 gstreamer0.10 0.10.35-1 update: It doesn't happen if the downloaded file has .part appended to it when downloading. But if you move mkv files between folders while thunar is browsing the folder the mkv file is being moved to you see tumbler leak. So i am pretty sure it happens when tumbler trys to access the incomplete file.
Can you try removing the ffmpeg-thumbnailer plugin to see whether this is a bug of ffmpeg-thumbnailer or gst-thumbnailer? Also, please describe "tumbler starts to leak" in more details. What are you observing exactly?
removing ffmpegthumbnailer doesn't resolve the problem. >what am i observing high memory usage: http://i.imgur.com/UmTew.png once i close thunar. tumblerd doesn't release the memory it used while trying to generate a thumbnail.
I have also run into this problem while trying to browse my media server's movie folder. The system comes to its knees within seconds of opening the folder (mostly mkv files, some avi's from from back before mkv+h264 was a thing). XFCE4 starts throwing "failed to fork" messages for anything you try to do. Last time I force-killed tumbler (had to remote in as root... yes, it's not secure to enable that blah blah blah), it was showing 11gb in VIRT and over 2gb in RES in top. Probably one of my files is damaged or truncated, but there are several hundred in there, so no way to tell which one. I do like the ability to preview images (and even videos, if it didn't kill my machine), so I'd hate to have to uninstall tumblerd completely. If you have any test cases, I'd be happy to try and add more info. Sam

Probably in the gst thumbnailer, which has a new version. Please reopen if this still happens with upcoming 0.1.26 release.
