I am using xfce 4.8 on Debian unstable. The places-plugin's version is 1.2.0-3. I mount my hard disks/partitions through the fstab. The places-plugin doesn't show them. However, they are shown in Nautilus or the gtk "open dialog". This same behaviour is seen in xfdesktop and Thunar. I will create the relevant bug reports and mention them here. NOTE: Debian has applied the patch found in bug #6663 which is a copy of xfdesktop code.
