Created attachment 3688 relevant syslog entries When I insert a USB pen, it is detected properly and thunar mounts it. It gets mounted as root:root with permissions leon:~# ls -l /media/ -al total 16 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 May 23 00:09 . drwxr-xr-x 25 root root 4096 May 20 22:55 .. drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jan 1 1970 disk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 299 May 23 00:09 .hal-mtab -rw------- 1 root root 0 May 22 23:57 .hal-mtab-lock syslog in attachement. I'm using Debian testing, and xfce4-about report its version as Xfce 4 Desktop Environment version 4.8.0 (Xfce 4.6) The info above is from my laptop. I have the exact same behavior on my desktop and on the laptop with a different user. My current solution is to disable that thunar handles media insertion, that makes nautilus active, and that works with correct permissions. Can I supply additional information?
To clarify, the USB device gets mounted, but the user has read-only access to it. Expected behavior is that the user may read and write usb storage devices that gets attached.
Try updating your packages. The Xfce version reported by xfce4-about looks odd. Also, are you sure to be using thunar-volman 0.3.80? That release is not supposed to work with Thunar >= 1.2.0. Try Thunar >= 1.2.0 in combination with thunar-volman 0.6.0.
It works now after upgrading. Thanks for the suggestions. I did not have the newest version. Doing 'apt-get upgrade' was not enough because the xfce4-goodies and xfce4-netload had to be removed for the update to be possible. The solution was to issue an 'apt-get install xfce4'. That updated most of the xfce4 packages. After updating, I get moozer@leon:~$ ls -al /media/ total 16 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 May 23 00:34 . drwxr-xr-x 25 root root 4096 May 20 22:55 .. drwx------ 3 moozer moozer 4096 Jan 1 1970 74AA-59FC -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 240 May 23 00:28 .hal-mtab New version as reported by xfce4-about is 4.8.0. The 4.8.0 is the same as before, but xfce has been updated. It is obvious to see on icons, panels and also xfce4-about itself. moozer@leon:~$ thunar-volman --version thunar-volman 0.6.0 (Xfce 4.8.0) [snip] moozer@leon:~$ thunar --version Thunar 1.2.1 (Xfce 4.8.0) [snip]
Ok, cool. I'm closing this bug as invalid because 0.3.80 is not supposed to work with recent versions of Thunar anyway.
