xfwm / x.org crashes ( return to the framebuffer terminal , whole X server crashes ) when I using QT-based apps , xfwm / x.org crashes sometimes. ( KATE,KADU etc.) when CPU usage is high especially. sometimes helps renincing to ~RT prior like -19 / -20 or running QT- app in SCHED_ISO mode of cpu scheduler , but not always. the similar problem I had when I`m used enlightenmnet 0.1.6.7.2 with xcompmgr. now with current cvs xcompmgr is better. I`m not sure about the problem is related to xfwm-compositor or x.org My x.org = 6.8.1.902 , xfce cvs (1 day ago from now - 25.01.05 ) thanks & regards fallow Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. enable composite 2. run some qt app - KADU ( http://www.kadu.net/index.php?page=news&lang=en ) or KATE 3. make system CPU usage high , ex.compiling something , or high I/O usage 4. *** when I trying to receive message with Kadu - x.org / xfwm crashes 5. *** when I trying to open some file with KATE - x.org / xfwm crashes Actual Results: xfwm / x.org crashes Expected Results: not crashing - normal work of xfwm / x.org Gentoo Linux [ebuild R ] x11-libs/gtk+-2.6.1-r1 [ebuild R ] x11-libs/qt-3.3.3-r3 emerge info : Portage 2.0.51-r15 (default-linux/x86/2004.3, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r0 , 2.6.11-rc1-vv_e4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-rc1-vv_e4 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) processor Gentoo Base System version 1.6.8 Python: dev-lang/python-2.2.3-r1,dev-lang/python-2.3.4 [2.3.4 (#1, Jun 18 2004, 09:07:40)] ccache version 2.3 [disabled] dev-lang/python: 2.2.3-r1, 2.3.4 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.8.5-r2, 1.6.3, 1.9.4, 1.5, 1.7.9 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r2 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.10-r3 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-tbird -mmmx -m3dnow -pipe -frename-registers -fomit-fr ame-pointer -funroll-loops -fprefetch-loop-arrays -fno-rerun-loop-opt -ftracer -fforce-addr -ffast-math -s " CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-tbird -pipe -frename-registers -fomit- frame-pointer -funroll-loops -fprefetch-loop-arrays -fno-rerun-loop-opt -ftracer -fforce-addr -ffast-math -s " DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig distlocks prelink sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage_ovr" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
If you are returned to the console, it means X has died (not xfwm4), so it's a bug in X... Not much we can do.
Here I can crash X.org by simply running "xterm -bg black -fg white", no matter which composoting manager is run (xfwm4, xcompmgr) Guess you see why the compositor is disabled by default...
(In reply to comment #2) > Here I can crash X.org by simply running "xterm -bg black -fg white", no matter > which composoting manager is run (xfwm4, xcompmgr) > > Guess you see why the compositor is disabled by default... :( ..so I will post it in x.org bugzilla :) but composite + transparency seetings by mouse scroll is so beaty : P :) I changed cpu scheduler , and I`m going to modyfi kadu code for compensate cpu usage by time delays , also to change my reiser4 system to reiser3 maybe , (crashes with high i/o usage ) . thx and regards xfce team ;) cheers
This is an XOrg Composite bug.
Not an Xfce bug.
