Why you ask? Because double-clicking the file in something like thunar will cause the file to be added to the playlist rather than to replace the playlist. However, the track still plays immediately (even though that pref is only in the media chooser dialog.)

Also, you should have a preference in preferences: "Check and Delete Duplicate Playlist Entries."
