1. In my session, I go to panel's Applications menu-->Settings-->Window Manager 2. Choose the "Focus" tab. 3. Turn off "Raise on click" (uncheck it) 4. Place one window partially over another. 5. Hold down ALT. 6a. Alt+LeftMouse drag the lower window. BUG: The window being moved should not get focus or be brought to front. It should just move and maintain its z-order position. 6b. Alt+RightMouse drag the lower window. BUG: The window being resized should not get focus or be brought to front. It should just move and maintain its z-order position. I think only an Alt+RightMouse *click* should bring the behind window to front when using ALT+mouse (or click on the title bar, as per usual)
Humm I kinda disagree on this one, this is on purpose... Need to experiment with it.

But I could be wrong. I think it would be good, though: more explicit control. Thanks for taking a look. Is there a way I can set a flag, by any chance, to experiment myself?
The reason I disagree is because alt+click are shortcuts to WM functions, and while clicking inside the app is actually a click intended for the app and therefore does not raise the window if click on raise in unset, alt+click is equivalent to a click on the frame and therefore should focus and raise.

My initial report was a typo in this regard. I don't know what an Alt+RightMouse click should do. Maybe nothing. See my next post for more comments.

With raise-on-click unset (i.e. false): Presently, Alt+<Click OR Drag> will bring background windows to the front, with focus. So, I do not understand what difference it makes which one is "...intended for the app...". Additionally, it is also just as easy to argue that Alt+Drag is "intended for the app". So, as you mention, Alt+<Mouse> seems to be shortcuts to WM functions, regardless of intent. Disregarding intent for the moment: This is a usability issue for me. I would like to reposition and/or resize background windows for better viewing _without_ losing focus on my current, top window. I want to raise windows only when the title is clicked or when I Alt+Click (and not even when they are dragged or resized). This might mean that a different preference is coming up: "raise on move/resize" should be able to be set to false. What about this "Raise on focus" preference? Mine is unchecked (false), and yet when I do a resize from the frame, move with title bar, or Alt+RightDrag, or Alt+LeftDrag, focus is being given to the window AND it is raising with this very focus. Even though the option is off (see attached screenshot). Sorry for the discourse. Is there a better place to take my usability wishes/requests? Thanks.
