http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1316772 As written in that thread, after changing my resolution to 1024x768, xfce will no longer allow me to login. It just goes right back to the login menu after it flashes black a few times, then flashes white, then goes back to login screen.
It doesn't seem to be a resolution issue. After installing gnome-global menu, and doing the step 1 in README.xfce, where I edit my xinitrc or whatever in ./config/xfce4 then later, blanking or removing this file, will cause the same issue.
Created attachment 2660 Log from GDM/X
xdm will work and login by the way.
You should provide more information. The log you provided does not seem useful. Is there any error displayed in ~/.xession-errors? By the way, if it works correctly using xdm, it's likely to be an issue with GDM and not with Xfce.
Oh and by the way, did you change the resolution using the Display preferences dialog? If yes, does removing ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/displays.xml fix your issue? If yes, this is a duplicate of bug #5932.

Yes, it does happen after changing the resolution. But I can't test it atm. Also, it happens when trying to use global panel with xfapplet.
Fixed in git master.
