I using Xfce on Xubuntu 9.04. The network applet for the panel is from the Gnome. However, this is consuming a lot of memory. I wonder if there is a way to consume less. I didn't found the xfce wave-lan plugin on my Xubuntu distribution.
Then report that to Xubuntu people? You might want to try wicd.

I don't know, but, can't you just buy another RAM? 250MB is really low, even though I notice a footprint of around 130MB usually on my systems (Xfce or KDE, I guess even GNOME). Your printed results says you top around 200MB which lets think that you would need an upgrade. Plus, from the result you print, wicd takes about 20MB (client + daemon) while nm-applet takes 15MB and the daemon isn't even listed.

"Wicd is worth than the Gnome network manager.". Mmh, right I got the message wrong, you ment worse and not worth which points the opposite :)
I already upgraded it up to the maximum (256 MB). > you ment worse and not worth which points the opposite :) :D Maybe xfce isn't for my laptop. Maybe LXDE would be better.
I had recommend to move this bug to a forum (forum.xfce.org f.e.). Besides nm and wicd there is connman however the current client called gnome-connman (which doesn't require any gnome lib actually) didn't work for me the last time I tried it out, seems work has been focused on carrick that is the client for the moblin desktop (moblin-ux). Connman should, in my guess, have the smallest mem-footprint. Marking the bug as wontfix for now. There is also a more appropriate place for proposing new components on the wiki.
