When the search entry is shown when searching the view, thunar can't be closed. To reproduce: 1. give focus to the view. 2. start typing to search. 3. try clicking the X in the corner (in the window decloration). Nothing happens. This is seems to be in gtk+ and probebly needs to be fixed there. Since a file selector dialog has the same problem.
