Created attachment 2409 Desktop file which adds the xscreensaver settings 4.4 had an entry in the settings manager for the screensaver, by starting xscreensaver-demo. Attached is a .desktop file which adds the dialog back. It is based off xscreensaver-properties.desktop on my Debian sid system. IMHO it'd be great if this could go into the next bugfix release.
Not sure this is really appropriate for us to include. xscreensaver-demo has at times included a .desktop file of its own. Regardless, there's no reason to add X-XFCE (which should be X-Xfce anyway), or X-XfceSettingsDialog Categories. And also, if we're going to do something like this, we need to have a way to invoke different screensaver prefs dialogs depending on which screensaver is running... this is just not a good idea as-is.
Yes, xscreensaver does have its own .desktop file - as I mentioned, mine is based on it, so that it'll show up in the settings, where any normal user would expect it. I didn't think about different screensavers, that's true. I guess it's more complicated than a simple .desktop file. Oh well...
Do we really want this? The Xfce Settings Manager should IMO only take care of Xfce settings and we shouldn't add entries for non-Xfce things, that would clutter it.
Created attachment 3549 XFCE4 Settings Manager window from Debian 6.0.0 (32-bit) installation The icon for Screensaver is not displayed.
I do not know if the lack of a Screensaver icon on a new Debian installation is related to this. Please see attached screenshot.
Fixed.
