Hi, I'm running Debian unstable and I've just done an update of packages. That has updated my xfce4-power-manager from 0.6.4 to 0.8.0RC2. It has really changet it's interface and settings of the CPU governor is missing at all. I'm afreid, It's not the bug, but the feature, but it destroies it's functionality. How is the governor choosen now? It's ondemand all the time? What was the reason for this choice (not to allow user to set CPU governor)?

Thanks

There is two reasons for that first to simplify things, second the cpu governor stuff will be removed completely in future releases and will be replaced by latency please see http://hal.freedesktop.org/docs/DeviceKit-power/QoS.html#QoS.description for more details.

The power manager now uses ondemand when on battery which is basically gives the same performance when set to preformance governor (proven), and switch to powersave governor when on battery and the "prefer powersave over performance" is set in the battery tab.

I these aren't enough for you? i mean i don't see any missing feature here if for some reason you want to use another governor you can always disable CPU freq stuff in the extended tab.

Well, It's not a duplicate. Bug 5402 want another governor as a default, I want the power manager to let me change it. I started using Power manager to automaticly change CPU governor. There IS a functionality missing, cause the functionality was there in 0.6.4 and now it is not. I don't want to change the CPU governor by hand, I want Power manager to change it automaticly.

0.6.4:
on electric power: performance
on battery power: powersave

0.8.0RC2:
I cannot do this, I am in both cases on ondemand.

As an user I can see, something was working fine and now it is missing.

I'm not sure if I understand the text you've linked. CPU governor changing is not replaced with latecncy at this moment but it is out of service now, only thing I can do is to return to old version?

No that's not true, the power manager will change the CPU governor for you automatically, if you have the "prefer power savings over performance" set to true in your battery settings tab, the CPU governor will be set to powersave when running on battery power.

It is still working fine, it is not missing, we still have the cpu governor support in the version 0.8.0.

Again your problem is just between performance and ondemand, please keep in mind that using ondemand CPU governor is not scarifying performance at all, the performance that you get when using ondemand is exactly the same as preformance governor, it is just saving some cents with the same performance.

If you want to return the old version it is up to you, but you are scarifying a lot of advantages with 0.8 just to have performance ( which gives you nothing special) as a governor.

BTW: I marked the bug as duplicate because both addresses the same thing users are complaining about.

At the end we want our users to be happy, so please let me know if this is *still* a big issue for your.

So it changes the governor when changing battery/electric power, but you just cannot set exactly what governor to use?

I do apologize for being such a big troll. I'd thought it doesn't. That was even the reason for saying, it's not a duplicate of bug 5320.

Thank you for your help.
