no option to paste files in "detailed list" view

I have been using xfce on and of for a few years now and really like it although I have one major annoyance:

I prefer the detailed list view in thunar but this view does not give me the possibility to paste folders and files into it, only cut, copy and delete: so every time I want to paste a file I need to change to "view as icons" or "view as compact list"

I mean it works when the contents of the directory is quite empty but when it is to full to resize thunar to have an empty space it becomes impossible to paste
