This bug has been reported on Ubuntu Launchpad as: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331751 Binary package hint: xfce4-settings Xubuntu 9.04 xfce-settings 4.5.99.1-0ubuntu1 When pressing "Apply" button, it does nothing, and it show me 43 refresh rate instead of real. xrandr works fine. Strace log attached: changing refresh rate to 85, then press "Apply" and "Close". Attachment available at: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22886287/strace-xds.log
Yeah, I can confirm display settings don't seem to work. I don't know about ubuntu jaunty (it may be related), but I'm using quite recent xorg, randr 1.3 and stuff like that. If it works for “normal” people it's not that bad, but that means that as soon as randr 1.3 will be there it'll be broken. Can someone with a stable xorg setup comment on this?
It works with intrepid ibex (randr 1.2)
It does not work on Debian Lenny with randr 1.2.3 and xorg 7.3
Broken in Gentoo with xrandr-1.2.2.
Also broken in Zenwalk with xrandr 1.2.3
Could you guys try revision 29650. Some stupid macro was broken (always returned 0).
Works here with the revision 29650, except that when I close and reopen the display setting dialog, it always shows the first refresh rate of the list, instead of the refresh rate actually used.

The correct rate should be selected too now, revision 29667.
