I have a few java applications that aren't installed in global locations and are launched via shell script. Double clicking the shell script gives no indicator that the application is starting, because startup notification isn't enabled. Occasionally I'll close the Thunar window and only realize a few moments later that I didn't manage to actually start the app - I failed to double click. Sometimes my mouse will slip and I'll think I didn't double click correctly, and wind up opening multiple copies of an application. If Thunar launches something on my behalf there should be an immediate visual indicator, startup notification or not. In the absence of startup notification, likely the "waiting" mouse icon would vanish after a very short period of time, if SN was available, it would behave as it does currently. To see examples in other OSs - Windows Explorer performs one turn of the hourglass on applications that don't do the Win32 equivalent of startup notification. OS X's Finder performs a visual effect where the document or app icon enlarges on startup (easier seen than described). Reproducible: Always
