Hello, When I right click or center click over the desktop, I get no menus. Impossible to launch applications or change desktops. I'm using a mdk 10.0 Xfce 4 Desktop Environment version 4.1.91 installed with the installer script
sorry about the missing version selection in bugzilla; fixed. can you verify that xfdesktop is running? could you please kill and run xfdesktop from a terminal and paste any output you receive? are the window list menu and applications menu enabled from the Desktop settings panel?
also, please don't change the dependency information on a bug.
> please don't change the dependency information on a bug. Sorry, thought it was helpfull, but I now realize it's not. Better just to mention the other bug number. >are the window list menu and applications menu enabled from the Desktop settings panel? yes, I enabled everything > can you verify that xfdesktop is running? when I do #ps -A I can't see any xfdesktop process running This is what I get if I try to launch it: $ xfdesktop *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice xfdesktop: art_render_gradient.c:338: art_render_gradient_linear_render_8: Assertion `offset_fraction <= stops[ix].offset' failed. Aborted I tried to launch xfdesktop as root and I got it to work: # xfdesktop ** Message: xfdesktop: running without session manager Now I get my usual background picture, and the menus are there (right click and middle click menu) So the problem is that xfdesktop is not launched when I log in, I don't know why...
Update: I took another look at what's happening, and I realised that when I issue the command xfdesktop fromm root I'm calling the xfdesktop command from my previous install of xfce (4.03). If instead I go to the /usr/local/bin and I run ./xfdesktop, I get the same error as mentioned before. So there is really a problem to launch xfdesktop 4.02 beta.
1) please don't run xfdesktop as root; i can't guarantee that it's secure enough for that purpose (certainly gtk+ itself isn't). 2) this is a libart_lgpl bug. please see comments on bug 340 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 340 ***
