User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en_GB; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052912 Firefox/3.0 Build Identifier: From browsing the code it looks as though Thunar appends the literal string "/Desktop" to the user's home directory spec to locate where to image the desktop. So it's neither configurable nor standards-compliant. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Configure XFCE to "manage the desktop". (i.e. start Thunar in daemon mode.) Actual Results: Creates ~/Desktop and messes up my neat home directory. :-) Expected Results: Something like ~/.config/Thunar/Desktop or ~/.local/Thunar/Desktop It depends on whether you consider it config or data.
Bug 4365 includes the ability to freely define or undefine your Desktop folder.
Resolved by the more general changes implemented in response to #4365. (Which isn't marked closed yet, but looks pretty busy!) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 4365 ***
