Alternatively to using the plugin's preferences, the xfce4-screenshooter application might provide a command line option for setting the directory to use for the image. I don't use the plugin but instead have the stand-alone app bound to a key and I prefer to save screenshots in /tmp than in my home directory. Would be cool if the desired path could be passed by a command line option (or ideally by a setting without the need of the panel plugin).
I'll add a preferences dialog for the executable with a separate config file and a command line switch to punctially override this setting.
Should be fixed with the last revision of trunk. There is a -s switch to set a custom save folder and a -p switch which brings up a dialog to select a default save folder.

I would appreciate to have an option in the settings dialog of the plugin to change the fixed /tmp folder to something else. Probably a feature rquest then.
