I also want to use the desktop menus and icons provided by Xfdesktop. If "transparent" was an option to the backdrop color this could be accomplished. This isn't working for me in 4.6-RC1. I've got compiz providing the background via the Wallpaper plugin, and xfdesktop set to transparent background. What I get is xfdesktop's background appears corrupted, though the icons and menus work flawlessly.
Shame you didn't notice until now... this'll have to wait...

Transparent color option is available in xfdesktop 4.10. Marking resolved.
