It may seem esoteric or exotic, but I think it would be an awesome idea to be able to generate encrypted packages so your personal documents, pictures, vcards, contact db's or lists could be generated as encrypted by default. This MUST be an optional feature as it requires the following dependencies: Cryptkeeper is a Linux system tray applet that manages EncFS encrypted folders. To build from source you will need: * libgtk+ >= 2.8 * gconf 2.0 * encfs and fuse (I used fuse 2.6.3) On ubuntu you can install encfs like this: sudo aptitude install encfs sudo echo "fuse" >> /etc/modules sudo modprobe fuse sudo addgroup <your username> fuse Then you must log off and back on again. Source code cryptkeeper-0.9.1.tar.gz Debian source package Binary packages If you are using Ubuntu then Cryptkeeper may be in the universe package repository. 0.6.666: Ubuntu 6.06 (amd64) 0.6.666: Debian unstable (amd64) 0.9.0: Debian 4.0 (i386) More binary packages Binary for Ubuntu 32- and 64-bit Cryptkeeper is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 3, as published by the Free Software Foundation. Email 't-morton' at 'blueyonder.co.uk' It is lightweight and only requires GTK+ and gconf dependencies. It's simple and easy to use. you can create or load encrypted filesystems/directories via point-and-click GUI interface. you can mount and unmount encrypted filesystems on the fly, and import encrypted filesystems (that is the method that gave me this idea). Please contact me for any brainstorming on this or for clarification as per my feature request. Thx. itsanudae at g mail dot com
