I'm afraid we shall need a bit information to be able to understand what is going on. Can you use other applications? Is your system frozen? Can you kill the applications? If so, does it work again as normal? How do you launch these applications? Did you try from the command line in a terminal? Does it give any error message?
i just use firefox and some simple gtk applications, its ok, but today i use xubuntu live cd in vmware5.5. i want to install a xubuntu newly instead of install under ubuntu. i run install, because it had a long time to response, i click it again, then there is one show on task bar, and mouse is in wait state, then i click other, such like menu, task bar, there is none response. my system forzen again. i want to know is a problem of xfce or with xubuntu(gutsy). i can not do anything under desktop, and also can switch to tty use "Ctrl + Alt + F1", one i can do is. press my thinkpad super key "Fn+F4" to sleep. and then wake up to tty1, and then i press "Ctrl + Alt + Del" to restart system. thank you for your reply.

i test under xfce4.3 in xubuntu(gutsy). some gtk appication also have this problem, but there is no problem ubutnu xubuntu 6.10 with gtk applications. but when use eclipse, this problem in all both xubuntu(edgy) and xubuntu(gutsy), when i use eclipse 3.1, this problem occured less, but eclipse 3.3 occured after it startup every time, i think this may because some handle of java swt applications. when my system forzen,my mouse can move, any application also run there. and any nitoce of desktop also show there. but i can click any thing in my dsektop. i think there may be some error about my xorg.conf of my input or screen device.

this is fixed after i down updates of xubuntu-desktop package in 07.8.2 may be it because some depends of ubuntu.
