User-Agent: Opera/9.10 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Build Identifier: As a usability rule, the window opened by a menu command should almost always have the same name as the menu item unless there's a really good reason for not doing it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open the xfce menu 2. Select Settings -> Calendar Settings Actual Results: You get the "Orage Preferences" window. Expected Results: The window should be named "Calendar Settings" or the menu item should be called "Orage Preferences". Personally I only care about this because it looks amateurish and unpolished, but it was also listed in a book with UI bloopers as something that shouldn't be done. Simple errors like "Settings" -> "Preferences" aren't really fatal, but "Calendar" -> "Orage" will surely confuse any user who does not already know that the calender application is called Orage. He will think he has opened the wrong window. Syncronisation is needed between these menu items and settings windows: (menu item at left, window at right) Autostarted Applications <-> Autostarted applications (lowercase a) Calendar Settings <-> Orage Preferences Desktop Settings <-> Desktop Preferences Keyboard Settings <-> Keyboard Preferences Menu Editor <-> Xfce4-MenuEditor (change title instead of menu?) Mixer Settings <-> Sound Mouse Settings <-> Mouse Preferences Printing System Settings <-> Printing System Selection Sessions and Startup Settings <-> Sessions and Startup Window Manager Settings <-> Window Manager Workspaces Settings <-> Workspaces and Margins
This bug report is kinda problematic. I totally see your point but the bug is not to be filed against libxfce4menu (which by the way is not part of Xfce 4.4). It should rather be split up and filed against each component (orage, xfdesktop, xfce-mcs-plugins etc.). To explain why: All components install desktop entries which hold information about executable programs (e.g. Thunar installs Thunar.desktop, Thunar-bulk-rename.desktop, Thunar-folder-handler.desktop and xfce4-file-manager.desktop). The menu knows about these desktop entries and displays them according to their contents. What is displayed only depends on the contents of these desktop entries.
I'll move this to general.
Actually, the .desktop file is installed by Orage itself. I'm not in favor of 'fixing' this, really, though the .desktop file's Name= line should probably be changed to say 'Orage Preferences'. The GenericName= line, which is what the menu picks up, should be left as 'Calendar Settings'. Either way, up to Juha.
Clarified those names. Now referring to Orage and calendar so hopefully it is more clear now. Fixed in 4.7.4.2.
