a few weeks ago i used gnome on my parents' pc and tried out some new apps, that were a bit buggy and sometimes got stuck during use or after i clicked the close button on the window decorator. the nice thing was, that if they got stuck and i clicked on the close button or they got stuck after i clicked the button, after a few seconds a little dialog popped up, i was told that the application wasn't responding and i was asked if i wanted to force a closing of the app (-> kill it). when using xfce and such an app gets stuck, i have to use xkill for the fastest way to kill it, but i really liked this feature in gnome. i don't know if this is a metacity feature or if it's not sth the window manager does (if this is the case, please move this ticket to the right place) but imho xfwm4 is way better than metacity regarding usability, so i'd like to see this feature in xfwm4/xfce.
It's part of fd.o standards actually. It would be nice indeed, but I've been somewhat reluctant to implement such features in the WM. The standard gives the PID of the app to kill (through NET_WM_PID) but that will obviously not work with remote apps.
any updates here perhaps? i don't want to nag around, but i'd really like this feature in xfwm, because it would make ending unresponsive apps a lot easier in xfce. i didn't even know that this was an fd.o standard before :)
This seems to have been added a while ago already.
