In addition to the "focus follows mouse" and "click to focus" modes I'd like to propose a "focus on keypress" mode.

Speed: Instead of waiting for the whole delay timeout, the window gets focussed and gets the input instantly.
Overview: The (possible overlapped) target window only gets focus when really needed (for input). This reduces accidentally focussed windows and prevents windows on the background to overlap the wanted target window...
