xarchiver -x . file.tar.gz just exits xarchiver. nothing is done. -e works fine.
i've tested with a tar.gz file and a zip. when i tried a normal zip file, nothing was done either. when the zip's content was password protected, i got the "enter password" dialog and with the right password i could extract the file.
