Since last update, xfdestop doesn't get restored by the session manager as it doesn't recognise the --sm-client-id option passed by the session manager and simply won't start. The xsession-errors log shows: xfdesktop: Unknown option: --sm-client-id Options are: --reload Reload all settings, refresh image list --menu Pop up the menu (at the current mouse position) --windowlist Pop up the window list (at the current mouse position) --quit Cause xfdesktop to quit all other components (ie, libs) have been updated to their latest versions as far as I can tell.
Ah, bugfix side-effects... Should work again now.
