With dpkg-deb you can list the contents of a package(-c), extract the whole content(-x) and also extract the files as it would be an tar archive(--fsys-tarfile). deb support is planned but using ar that is available in every distro. dpkg-deb is available only to Debian users.
Nice to hear. I thought about the availability of dpkg-deb, too. But ar is the better choice. Let me know if you need testers or other help.
