The one reason I was hoping for this, for example, is to be able to use the media tagger and change the album or artist id's across a bunch of files. But the media tagger cannot support this, of course, because there is no way for the user to bring up the properties dialog. I'm sure there are other reasons that one might want this too. Reproducible: Always
Maybe for 1.0, but definitely not for BETA2.

Definitely not for 1.0.

I agree, this would be good to have. I would often like to use it for setting permissions, though not necessarily changing media tags.
IMO this is such a basic feature that it should be added ASAP. In fact it should already work in an 1.0.0 given the fact that it was requested back in 2006.
Highly wanted indeed. A simple, yet very important, use for this would be to get the size of the selected directories. It's almost indispensable!

Unfortunately, implementing it properly is far from trivial. Also, there are more important things to deal with at the moment. And while I see how this can be useful, I wouldn't call it a "basic" feature. Sorry guys, but you'll have to be patient with this feature. We'll hopefully get to it.
(In reply to comment #8) > Unfortunately, implementing it properly is far from trivial. It does not look that difficult (du -s $ARGS + addition, maybe 2 lines of code!) I would think it is a newbie task, maybe one can give hint of where/how to do this so some newcomer could do it :-) <snip> > I wouldn't call it a "basic" feature. Would you call this an advanced feature, or an expert one ? It is just existing eveywhere else (even windows!), and a file manager without this feature is rather useless (at least for me) > Sorry guys, but you'll have to > be patient with this feature. We'll hopefully get to it. in bug 2695 Janis put the milestone for a similar feature to 1.0 ! Waiting more than 4 years for simple thing like this is not good for our beloved xfce.
At least some rudimentary properties dialog saying "4 files and one folder, total size 3 MB" should be easy to implement and would help a lot.

Thunar is a great filemanager which does everything I want now EXCEPT offer the ability to get the size of multiple dirs/files by right clicking -> properties. I used to frequently recommend XFCE before buntu went Unity but now due to that and the fact that Thunar can browse network drives too I find myself recommending XFCE AND warning people about this heinous omission within Thunar more than ever. It is shocking that this fundamental file management feature is missing after all these years and I'll be mighty disappointed if this feature isn't given top priority for the next release which will, if we're lucky, will occur in time to be included in xubuntu 11.10 Consider yourselves told! ;) Thanks! Dan

If this one is marked as RESOLVED FIXED, is it?
