It would be easier if mixer had option for horizontal layout with width. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
probably something like in bug# 1975 would be better.
or do you mean something like: { o o o o o o [==== ] o o o } where "{...}" = panel, "o" = launcher, "[=== ]" is a slider-like thing you want? sounds neat...
It would seem that the reporter of bug# 1975 has the same problem but our solution suggestions to it differ. So yes, I mean the slider-like thing you drawed.
If anyone can create a mockup of a horizontal-based volume mixer, please attach it to this bug.
Make sure to tell Jannis, maybe he can do something like this in the GStreamer based Mixer? I don't like configuration changes in the stable branch, so all I could do is add a _compile_ time option. That said, I wonder why nobody wrote a goodie panel plugin that does exactly that. The "libxfce4mixer.so.0" is installed for everyone to use (although I should maybe increase the version number somewhen).
Version 4.9.0 introduces a popup with a slider, although that's slightly different than suggested here.
