When doing mass renaming, just hitting F2 with multiple selected files, different app could be opened besides just xfce'w own bulk renamer. For exact example, there is renameutils: https://www.nongnu.org/renameutils , which I discovered while searhing some time ago for something to enable rename workflow similar to emacs dired mode (just move cursor between items of filelist in text buffer and edit all at once). Though I rarely use it, since I rarely use bulk renaming at all). Option to configure it could present in Preferred applications (Settings Manager), besides of fm settings. In my case I had to create custom action for maximum file scope, with this exec line: qmv -e mousepad -f do %F I'm not sure is there any more worthy choice for such app class.
Moving to exo, which takes care on "preferred applications" Once exo has support for it, thunar / xfdesktop could use it.
It would make more sense to implement this as a (hidden) Thunar setting because it only affects Thunar.
