Whisker Menu 2.2 introduced "slide out" search results: rather than displaying search results immediately, there is a slide out animation. I prefer not to have this because (a) I find it distracting, (b) it takes longer before you can read the search results, and (c) it is more resource intensive. If it were my decision I would remove this outright, but it could also be made into an option (and ideally disabled by default :). I'm not sure the details of how this was introduced. If it is part of some GTK library, perhaps users like me could just disable all animations through GTK, but I'm not sure if that's possible. Thanks for your consideration.
This is an intentional change to Whisker Menu. It doesn't take very long to see the results (a tenth of a second), and it does not use any more resources (I measured when I added it, and it is indistinguishable). I'm sorry, but I prefer not to add even more options unless absolutely necessary.
Have you tested and measured the delay and bandwidth usage when operated remotely with VNC or X11? Does Whisker Menu aspire to be usable in these settings?
