For a Thinkpad W541, the display stays permanently black/blank after closing and opening the lid. This issue has been confirmed to happen on another Thinkpad W541. I have attempted to inject the acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2013\" argument to my kernel boot options. It doesn't seem to affect anything. Both laptops have the latest BIOS and Embedded Controller firmware. This issue is present on both the latest Ubuntu and Debian as of the writing date of filing this. I believe the issue is related to XFCE, as when using GNOME, the problem disappears entirely. This is for XFCE 4.12 with XFCE Power Manager 1.6.1.
