I would prefer not have the text "save" on more then one button in the save changes dialog when closing tab/window and there are changes. I think "Discard" or something like that would be better. So change: "_Don't Save" To: "_Discard" Even though discard dont seems like a word that is used in Xfce much. That way the dialog says: Discard - Cancel - Save Instead of: Don't save - Cancel - Save
Why would it be better? Is there a problem with the current wording?
I think its better to say what it does instead of saying what it does not. I tried searching for other Xfce software that have the same dialog to compare but i cant seem to find like it. GIMP have Discard changes i think. gEdit have Close without saving i think. LibreOffice Writer have the same with Don't save. Almost identical dialog to mousepad. But i prefer very short buttons (just one word) because when i close a program i just want to quickly move on and not have to read so much and not have to click a button containing the word "save" when i dont want to save. Some software have ... Do you want to save... dialog and then Yes No Cancel. But then you are kind of forced to read/understand the question first. So i think prefer Discard Cancel Save. The words in each button does not exist in the other buttons.
Could "Discard" not be mistaken for "Discard dialog"? We would have to go with "Discard changes" to make it clear, but that is not shorter than the current label.
I would like to look at what Xfce uses in similar dialogs. Then we could use the same if someone can remember others. I cant seem to find any software using "Discard" right now in such a dialog. The title and question in the dialog is about changes so i would assume the buttons is the respons to what is inside the dialog. It says changes three time. Four times if added to the button. I guess i have seen dialogs with discard used to close it or something like that in other software.
Any new information? I would still vote to keep the current variant.
Ok just keep it i can add comment if i see something i like better.
Closing, reopen if you find something better.
