Exo asking me to choose my mail reader while Chrome has already opened a new composing window for Gmail

Hi guys,

I am running into the following issue.

I have set Google Chrome and Gmail to handle all mailto links.

As a result, if I click on an email inside Chrome, Gmail's composing window opens in a new tab as desired.

However, at the same time, Exo opens the attached window and asks me to choose my preferred mail reader.

I have already chosen my preferred reader by having allowed Chrome/Gmail to handle mailto links.

How can we Exo detect that choice?

Thank you very much for your help! 🙃👋

Works for me, Chromium (72) was opening emails links on Thundebird, but when Gmail was set to open all email links via that Protocol Handler Icon in the address bar, it works fine and Exo doesn't to open Thunderbird.
What Chrome version are you using?

Thanks Andre. I am running Chrome 72 as well.

I have recorded this video for you:

Does this shed some more light?

Interestingly, it works from within Gmail itself but not on a different tab.

I can open gmail from this bug page when I click on any email link, Chrome will not start Thunderbird.
Since I can't really reproduce this, it's hard to figure out what is happening but it feels Chrome is falling short here, it opens a new tab and then asks the OS for the default preferred app.
Try to delete the handler set in chrome://settings/handlers and to add it again.

Off-topic: try xfce4-appfinder 4.13.2, the sorting is much less annoying.

Thank you Andre. Much appreciated. ❤

I followed your instructions. Unfortunately, the issue remains.

Can you kindly check this video?

To add on my previous comment.

I was able to workaround this issue by installing the following Chrome extension:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mailto-for-gmail/dgkkmcknielgdhebimdnfahpipajcpjn

Now it's working properly.

Side question: How do I delete an entry from Preferred Applications that I added myself (see Gmail shown in the attachment)?
