As in the title, clicking on the menu item does not do anything. Downgrading to 1.8.0... makes even the right click option "set as background" disappear. Downgrading to 1.6... restores time-space continuum. Setting the wallpaper from settings>desktop / right click on desktop works. Setting the wallpaper from ristretto works also. As already mentioned in the linked forum, this seems to be a dependency problem. Works fine for me when using dev version of xfdesktop (4.13.1)
Yes, Thunar 1.8.0 has a new API for extensions and those changes cannot be backported to xfdesktop 4.12 due gtk3 symbols not playing well in a gtk2 app. While xfdesktop 4.14 is not released, options are: - Stick with Thunar 1.6.x + xfdesktop 4.12 - Use Thunar 1.8.x + xfdesktop 4.13 (development release, I use it daily without problems, but YMMV) - Use Thunar 1.8.x + xfdesktop 4.12 and lose context menu custom actions/plugins The Arch Linux packager chose the third option, but users are free to pick any of the other two using AUR packages: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xfdesktop-devel https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/thunar-gtk2/
