To reproduce: 1) Open a file that doesn't have a file extension that let's Thunar automatically guess the filetype; for example, open the file "script" 2) Select a filetype manually; for example, select Script/sh as "script" is a bash script; the contents are correctly syntax highlighted 3) Save the file What should happen: The content stays syntax highlighted (with the user-selected filetype) What happens: The filetype option is reset and the file is not syntax highlighted any more
