When requesting the frame extents with _NET_REQUEST_FRAME_EXTENTS of an unmapped window that is hinted via _MOTIF_WM_HINTS to be undecorated, Xfwm4 reports the frame extents of a decorated window. Once the window has been mapped, the correct all-zero frame extent is set to _NET_FRAME_EXTENTS.
You mean before the window has ever been made visible, or a window which was hidden after being mapped?
This happens when making a _NET_REQUEST_FRAME_EXTENTS request before the initial mapping of the window. Once it has been mapped, everything works correctly if I unmap it again.

OK, I understand, yes, the way it's done means that _NET_REQUEST_FRAME_EXTENTS on windows that have never been mapped will return the default decoration size regardless of any other MWM hint. A bit of a shortcut, indeed.
