After upgrade to Xfce 4.2.3.2 from 4.2.2 through the source installer, freetype bytecode interpreter is disabled when using Xfce. Returns to using bytecode interpreter after reverting to 4.2.2. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Slackware 10.2 Freetype 2.1.10 recompiled with bytecode interpreter support GTK+ 2.6.10 previously using Xfce 4.2.2 that ships with Slackware 10.2

Sorry that doesn not make any sense. The so called bytecode interpreter is in the freetype library, xfce doesn't provide nor recompile the freetype library, it just uses it. The only logical explanation is that by compiling from source, you simply picked up another lib installed in parallel on your system. But in any case, I don't see how this could be related to Xfce 4.2.3.2.
Sorry, but there is no way Xfce can do anything about using or not using the bytecode interpreter in freetype.
