Stopping recoll from starting indexing at login and starting it after login manually does not start an excessive number of x-clients.
Probably the same root cause as this: when I plug in an external USB drive the entire system hangs for a few minutes. Checking the log afterwards shows a lot of messages like Sep 18 08:46:33 crescendo slim[482]: Maximum number of clients reachedthunar-volman: Cannot open display: . Sep 18 08:46:37 crescendo slim[482]: Maximum number of clients reached Sep 18 08:46:37 crescendo slim[482]: ** (thunar-volman:4246): WARNING **: Could not open X display Many of these messages are logged every second. The popup notification that the drive has been mounted does not appear until the looping has stopped. This is not at login time, but any time later. Thunar-volman version 0.8.1-1 on Arch.
A recent change in behavior. How there are 209 instances of Thunar that are started when the X starts, without recoll indexing running, one of which is the daemon.
