Tumbler can't make thumbnails of recorded on the iPhone MOV files. When he detects this file, cpu load becomes high, tumbler do not creates thumbnails of other files, below MOVs VCodec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) ACodec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)

Workaround is to disable video thumbnailing edit /etc/xdg/tumbler/tumbler.rc
I have a similar problem with FLV files downloaded from Youtube (It uses FLV for some of its very-low-res videos). Webm and Mp4 seem to work fine, but flv causes tumbler to hang. It sounds like the same bug you have, so I will post here instead of as a new bug. What I know is that with Tumbler 0.1.31-3, I can use Thunar to open a folder filled with videos, and it will thumbnail them from left to right, top to bottom successfully, until it hits an FLV file. At this point it will hang, continuing to churn moderate CPU usage but not producing any more thumbnails. When I deleted one of them and then restarted Tumbler(by killing it in the task manager and then reloading the folder), it started thumbnailing again until it hit another FLV file. When I deleted all the FLV files out of the folder and restarted Tumbler again, it thumbnailed the rest of the folder (filled mostly with MP4 and Webm files) successfully and then went to sleep, so this bug appears to be specific to FLV.
Slightly embarrassing, my previous comment I had written up before I saw this, was going to post as a new bug but then copy-pasted here when I saw this had already been reported. But then I forgot to take out the part about it apparently being specific to FLV, when there's apparently at least one other format that has this issue.
I have tested the attached mov file and it is working fine here. Could you retest please and in case it is not working provide info about the distro version+version of libffmpegthumbnailer.
Created attachment 7132 screenshot I cannot reproduce with that video, but I'm able to do it with other. I have folder with a bunch of such videos, and tumbler stucks on some of them. I'll send you a dropbox link to one of them Linux Mint 18.1
I suppose that you have tumbler-plugins-extra installed. I have tested your video with Linux Mint 18.1 and no problem at all. If you don't have tumbler-plugins-extra you might have to install it and kill tumberld to retry again.
I've installed this plugin, purged icon caches and walked all folders with videos. All thumbnails loaded successfully! I guess tumbler-plugins-extra should be mandatory. Or maintainers should disable video thumbnailers in stock config
Happy to hear that, I agree totally with you that tumbler-plugins-extra should be installed by default, otherwise distro splitting up tumbler package should disable video thumbnailers. It is more a bug for the distro package maintainers.
