Created attachment 6312 Screenshot of alt tab behaviour Hi, I've been trying out 4.12.1 on Arch Linux for a couple of days. Everything is working flawlessly. However If my mouse is in the middle of the screen when I alt-tab the mouse highlight appears so two applications are highlighted. Its very confusing. I've attached a screenshot. white is the mouse highlight blue is the application selected when I pressed alt-tab. There is a hack for this in the xfce forums from someone else who finds this confusing. https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?pid=37505 Looking for a solution I noticed a lot of people wanted this feature but it should either; a. take over the keyboard highlight (blue) if the mouse is moved. b. Have an option in 'window manager tweaks' to disable it. Thanks.
It's not 2 items hilighted, it's one selected item and one highlighted, the color is different.
(In reply to Olivier Fourdan from comment #1) > It's not 2 items hilighted, it's one selected item and one highlighted, the > color is different. Hello, Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I really can't use it like this. - One is highlighted white and one is highlighted blue. - If my cursor is away from the middle of the screen only one is highlighted blue. - If my cursor is near the middle of the screen one is highlighted white and one blue. - Sometimes only one is highlighted slightly off white when the two are together. I dont know why my cursor is so often in the middle of screen, I dont use the mouse that much. I usually in Tmux/Vim but I do alt tab for everything else like web browser and having two items highlighted in different colors is just confusing. I now end up having to tab a couple of times to find out where I am then either tab all the way round of shift tab to go back.
Thinking about... why is this even highlighted at all by the mouse? I can see my mouse cursor. If I wanted to click something It would be the thing under my mouse cursor which I can see....
Note that I am not in disagreement with what you're saying. But pre-lighting widgets on mouse over is something pretty standard in gtk, and the color comes from the gtk theme used (thus the "hack" you pointed out, which is not a hack if you come to think of it, but a pretty standard way of adjusting colors). For example, using Adwaita, it's a lot less confusing because the hilighting is just slightly brighter than the non-hilighted widget.
> For example, using Adwaita, it's a lot less confusing because the hilighting > is just slightly brighter than the non-hilighted widget. Linux themes are often inconsistent and miss things / can't be tested in all possible use cases. The theme I'm using is Numix Frost, those guys are usually pretty good at covering all bases. I have 3 computers. Downloading a png and modifying theme files then copying to all the changes to 3 computers isnt something I think I should have to do. For the record I think 4.12 is fantastic. Intelligent Hiding Panels, Window tiling into all 4 corners, the ability to full screen any application, even the terminal has better colour schemes. But this double highlighting is slowing me down from using my computer in a pretty standard way and I can't see how any users benefit from it. I've been using alt-tab since Windows NT. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this. I've made my case for something needing to be changed. Please feel free to close the ticket.
