Created attachment 5436 Screenshot Hello, I am using parole-0.5.4-1 on Manjaro Linux. Parole does not play .dat file which contains digital video (svcd). By not play I mean that when I open it with parole, it doesnt play it, nor does it ask for any missing codec to be installed. The following codecs are installed on my system, all of which were listed as optional dependency for parole: gst-libav gst-plugins-bad gst-plugins-base gst-plugins-ugly The same file plays on VLC media player. When I click on it, Thunar displays it as "RIFF Audio" in the status bar. I have attached a screenshot also. (After double clicking the media file)
Hi, could you please test the file with other players that use gstreamer, e.g. totem? Just to see whether it's a general problem with gstreamer. Frankly, I've never encountered this file-format before (video-cds seem kinda last century). You could also try to install Parole 0.6, which uses gstreamer1.0 (instead of 0.10) by default.
Hi, I also tested in Slackware, using parole-0.3.0.3, the file did not play there also. The following plugins were installed- gst-ffmpeg-0.10.13-x86_64-2_SBo phonon-gstreamer-4.6.3-x86_64-1 gst-plugins-bad-0.10.23-x86_64-3_slack gst-plugins-base-0.10.36-x86_64-2 gst-plugins-good-0.10.31-x86_64-5 gst1-plugins-bad-1.2.2-x86_64-1_SBo gst1-plugins-base-1.2.2-x86_64-1_SBo gstreamer-0.10.36-x86_64-2 gstreamer1-1.2.2-x86_64-1_SBo The file plays in MPlayer (if it counts..) On upgrading to parole-0.6.1 also, the file did not play. Besides, the files which used to play like .mp4, .3gp etc also are not playing with the new version (it complains about missing codecs like H.264 decoder and Adaptive Multi Rate (AMR) decoder), even after the following gstreamer1 plugins being present- gst-ffmpeg-0.10.13-x86_64-2_SBo gst-plugins-bad-0.10.23-x86_64-3_slack gst-plugins-base-0.10.36-x86_64-2 gst-plugins-good-0.10.31-x86_64-5 gst1-plugins-bad-1.2.2-x86_64-1_SBo gst1-plugins-base-1.2.2-x86_64-1_SBo gst1-plugins-good-1.2.2-x86_64-1_SBo gstreamer-0.10.36-x86_64-2 gstreamer1-1.2.2-x86_64-1_SBo phonon-gstreamer-4.6.3-x86_64-1 and also installed are- x264-20131101-x86_64-1_SBo opencore-amr-0.1.3-x86_64-1_SBo I will install totem and report back..
It plays in totem aka Movie player..
Hi, after I installed gst1-libav, I can play the .mp4 and the .3gp files with parole-0.6.1 (the gtk3 icons however are not being displayed correctly) But not the .dat file.
The gtk3 issue was when using fluxbox; when using Xfce the parole icons/theme is being displayed correctly. (But no change with the .dat file)
I guess I'll have to find a .dat file to be able to try to reproduce and fix this...
If you want to :) For the time-being I have switched to Mplayer; also I have exams coming up in the next week so may not be able to monitor the issue closely..
