There is so much stuff in there that it does not actually help recommend me any good software.

I was trying to find a good email client, but the list currently contains 5 applications of which at least Postler is no longer maintained. What kind of recommendation is that?

Browsers? 5, of which 3 are rather obscure IMO. Not something I would recommend personally.

Irc clients? 1... XChat is okay but dead, Hexchat is a preferable fork. No other options?

Media players? dozens.
Image viewers? dozens.
Text editors? dozens.

My suggestion would be to move a lot of applications to a secondary page like command line tools, so that this page might be more useful for new users looking for good, simple, lightweight software.
