When the compositor is enabled and a window is quickly shaded and unshaded (e.g. by using the mousewheel on the titlebar, even if accidently), chances are that the window eventually becomes half-transparent and stays this way. The only solution is to restart the application the window belongs to.
Still happens in Xfce 4.12. Example video: https://gfycat.com/FlimsySoreGermanspaniel
You know you can adjust transparency using the moousewheel with the easy-move key usually alt) so I suspect you simply change the transparency while shading/unshading the window with the mouse wheel.

Using the easy-move key together with the scrollwheel actually zooms in the entire screen! Neat, didn't even know we had this functionality :P However, I'm not touching any keys while reproducing this bug. It even happens when I set it to none. Interestingly, it only happens when scrolling using the touchpad (two-finger scrolling).
Oooooh, I figured it out. Scrolling left/right (in case horizontal scrolling is enabled) on the window bar changes transparency! This should really REALLY be documented and there should be a way to turn it off...
Nothing new here actually.
No sorry, this wont be optional
(In reply to Olivier Fourdan from comment #6) > No sorry, this wont be optional Well, I don't think this is a good decision. But if it's not going to be an option, then it needs some sort of indicator. I've been using Xfce for many years and only today found out, more or less by accident, the cause of my windows becoming transparent occasionally. I thought it was a bug. And I'm a very intuitive person. There are no indicators for it. The window manager settings have no keyboard shortcut for it, no option to toggle it, nothing that even hints that this is a feature that exists. There must be many more users who are confused by this feature. And I imagine it must be frustrating, especially for those not very well versed in computers. At least something should be done.
fixed in git, both branches master and xfce-4.12
Thank you. I can verify that the newest Xfwm doesn't do this anymore by default. Although I wonder, does it have to be a hidden option? It doesn't bother me personally, but it appears inconsistent. "Use mouse wheel on title bar to roll up the window" already exists in the Window Manager Tweaks. The transparency changer functions very similar. Wouldn't it be more consistent to have both options alongside each other? Just my opinion. Feel free to close again if you disagree.

What about people with normal mice with vertical-only scrollwheels? Why not have something like the old system (some modifier key plus vertical scroll) instead of or, better yet, in addition to the horizontal scrolling?
