Hi, The FAQ at http://docs.xfce.org/FAQ (not the one in wiki.) says GTK menu accelerators can be changed through ~/.gtkrc-2.0. This is wrong, since preferences from that file are ignored in favour of XFCE settings. See: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=708002 Since that FAQ only contains this question, and it is correctly explained in the more complete FAQ at http://wiki.xfce.org/FAQ, I suggest that the docs FAQ be deleted.
the faq is not wrong, report to sylpheed. editable menu accelerators do work, you can try with other applications. furthermore, it works fine yeah with sylpheed. and yes we should perhaps merge the FAQ.
just read sylpheed requested that you report to xfce... so someone has to propose solutions to you and its us... maybe ask/search on a forum? https://forum.xfce.org/ not a bug.
to sum it all up. - when running the xfce desktop environment, and implying you have xfsettingsd running, the gtkrc-2.0 is likely useless because most settings are overidden by XSETTINGS (which are set by xfsettingsd) - gnome does the same with its settings daemon - i have updated the faq (the one on docs.xfce.org) - if you search you can find the information http://ddg.gg/?q=xfce+menu+accelerators in the future please make better bug reports easier to understand, for example don't point me to a thread i need to read. thanks for the feedback, mike
Hi, (In reply to comment #3) > to sum it all up. > > - when running the xfce desktop environment, and implying you have > xfsettingsd running, the gtkrc-2.0 is likely useless because most settings > are overidden by XSETTINGS (which are set by xfsettingsd) I didn't know you could have xfsettingsd not running in XFCE, and didn't know it was xfsettingsd. As I said in the other thread, I am new to XFCE, and to desktop environments. > - gnome does the same with its settings daemon > - i have updated the faq (the one on docs.xfce.org) Thank you. However, I have taken a look at the docs FAQ and it looks the same as before. Specifically, it still points to changing gtkrc-2.0 in the third item, and doesn't warn that in XFCE that is most likely not going to work due to xfsettingsd. Please, could you take a look at the web document to make sure it contains your changes, or maybe point me out if I'm missing them? I'm behind a proxy so maybe it's caching an old version. > - if you search you can find the information > http://ddg.gg/?q=xfce+menu+accelerators Yes, I had read the FAQs and the documentation. I did my homework. However, and that would be subject for another bug, nowhere it is said that GTK preferences, in general, are overridden by XFCE, even by defaults. And nowhere it is said how to change them (I found out by chance in the settings editor). This is especially important since not all of them can be changed through the Settings Manager. I think this should be documented. Would do it myself right now but I'm not knowledgeable enough (about XSETTINGS nor XFCE), and don't feel comfortable filing a wishlist bug as I don't know if this is acceptable in XFCE. > in the future please make better bug reports easier to understand, for > example don't point me to a thread i need to read. Sorry. As I said I didn't know XSETTINGS was optional.

I'm behind a proxy so maybe it's caching an old version. the docs is right, just propose something if you think it should be changed, and i'll do it. currently it states three points: 1. you use xfce, do it like this 2. you use gnome, do it like that 3. in all other cases tweak gtkrc-2.0 i updated it again and added a special warning for people not following the points :) mike

It is much clearer right now. Thank you :)
